In 2020 I found my love for thrillers and mystery again, and I read some excellent books. Steve Cavanagh’s books may come as no surprise since he became one of my favorite authors. Curious which thrillers are my favorite? Then read on!
All of the books got a 5-star rating.
Twisted – Steve Cavanagh
Let’s start with one of my favorite Steve Cavanagh books. This is also the first book I’ve read of him. I was lucky to be reviewing this one for a Dutch publisher. It is my first thriller of 2020 that I gave 5 stars. There are a few interesting plot twists that you do not always see coming. Steve Cavanagh knows how to keep your attention right to the last page. Highly recommend this one.
Thirteen & Fifty-Fifty – Steve Cavanagh
In 2020 I also started with the Eddie Flynn series and this just became one of my favorite thriller series. Just like Twisted, I was lucky to be reviewing Fifty-Fifty for the Dutch publisher. Because it is the fifth book in the series, I first wanted to read the rest of the series. Thirteen is my all-time favorite of this series and after that comes Fifty-Fifty. These books are amazing, and Steve Cavanagh know how to write a damn good thriller. Highly recommend this series.
A Study in Scarlet & The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes & The Hound of the Baskervilles – Arthur Conan Doyle
If you know me from bookstagram, you know that Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorite tv series of all-time. So, it is not a surprise that these three books became one of my favorites. I do not have a lot to say about these books, but I listen to them on audiobooks and that experience was great! The audiobooks are amazing, and I highly recommend that you listen to these series.
De Speelgoedman – Heleen van den Hoven
This is a Dutch thriller that I was lucky to be reviewing for the Dutch publisher. The first 150 pages are a bit weird, in a good way. You find out that something is wrong with Inigo and that he is doing things he cannot remember. This caused you as a reader to get a little confused. In the first 150 pages you really have no idea where the story is leading. It is a good thriller, and I can highly recommend it to my Dutch readers!
Perfect Remains & Perfect Prey – Helen Fields
These two books are the first in a series and I cannot wait to read the rest of them. There is enough tension in the story and you also read from the perspective of the murder, which is interesting. If you have not read these books, you should! They are amazing.
Harrow Lake – Kat Ellis
This is a young adult horror book, but I am including it to this list because it is the only horror book, I have read in 2020. This is also the first horror book I gave 5-stars. I had no idea what to expect from this book. I only knew a friend thought it was a great book and this was the only reason I bought it. The book contains plenty of creepy moments and the legend Mr. Jitter is the creepiest of them all. How he gets described and the clicking sounds he makes creeped me out. But at the same time, I was so intrigued by it. I don’t often feel satisfied with the endings, but I loved this ending.
