We follow Lola who is the daughter of a famous movie director. When her father is attacked one night, she is “sent away” to her grandmother in Harrow Lake. Harrow Lake is a town where Lola her father’s famous movie “nightjar” was filmed. She knows everything about the movie, but she knows nothing about the dark history and the legends of this town. Since Lola has been in Harrow Lake, she feels like someone or something is following her. Can she found out the truth about the legend that is haunting the town, or will she be snatched away by it?
Kat Ellis her writing style is so nice to read and the short chapters get you through the book quite quickly. Lola as a character is well developed. She is the daughter of a famous movie director, but nobody really knows her. Her father has always kept her out of his work or the news and nobody can take a photographer with her. Why? Is this because he is protective of her or is there perhaps more to it? Lola is an interesting character and through the book, you get to know her better and you also get to know more about her father. Ever since she arrived in Harrow Lake, she has the feeling that something is wrong with the town and she has the feeling that someone or something is following her. The book contains plenty of creepy moments and the legend Mr. Jitter is the creepiest of them all. How he gets described and the clicking sounds he makes creeped me out. But at the same time, I was so intrigued by it. I don’t often feel satisfied with the endings, but I loved this ending.
Harrow Lake is a young adult horror book and I think this is a perfect book if you want to try out horror or want to get into horror.
