Final Girls is Riley Sager’s first thriller and my least favorite book of his. In Final Girls, we follow Quincy who is the only survivor of some horrific murders. She can hardly remember anything about that terrible night.
The first half of the book is slow and little happens. We get to know Quincy better and every now and then you have a flashback chapter from the night of the murders. When another ‘final girl’, a girl who has also experienced something horrible, suddenly appears in front of Quincy’s door. From here the story starts to get a bit more interesting. But still, I found it quite boring until the last 150 pages where the tension starts and different things happen. I certainly did not see a certain plot twist coming near the end and was surprised by it.
The writing style is different from his other books, which makes sense since this is his first book. It reads smoothly and the events are described in detail. I only expected more from this book since I loved Last Time I Lied and Lock every Door. Overall it was an okay read.
